This has been an ongoing issue for years and we have attempted to educate with certain exercises but as soon as Petra feels her traps, rather than listen to our instruction to change her movement pattern, she advises that she simply does not want to do the movement because it sets her traps off. This morning the same situation happened and I tried to explain to her the reason her traps are getting involved is due to her doing the movement incorrectly. I was trying to give her cueing to correct this but rather than accept that for her to resolve the issue – she actually has to learn how to do the movement properly – Petra advised that she didn’t want to do it because it was going cause issues.
In my professional opinion – we are at a point where I am running out of options in terms of coaching. If Petra was open to learning the correct form and accepting that with light weight and practice – we can make better progress in learning the correct patterning. We are at the point where unless Petra is open to the learning process, we will not be able to do anything further with her shoulder and patterning issue and in turn – her over active traps will remain a problem.
Petra mentioned that she does not want to cause further issues with her body as her hips are having issues at present and she did not want to add to the injury list. I will comply with this request however I am nothing this down with a simple observation – her movement patterns on a variety of her exercises are sub-optimal and due to her insistance on not changing or being open to the fact that many of her movement patterns have caused this current state of pathomechanics through her shoulders and hips, the issues will persist and in all likelihood – become more common.
