12 Reasons why a Protein Shake is BETTER than Maccas Fries

One of my favourite clients mentioned to me via Facebook tonight about the mental struggle she had at resisting the temptation of eating McDonald’s tonight. To be precise – the fries. I worked for McDonald’s in my youth and back in those days, their procedural approach and set work ethic was highly regarded. The quality of their food? – not so much. I will be brutally honest – some of the quality of food being sold was horrid. I remember getting in trouble numerous times for wasting food because it was past it’s sell timer. A greedy owner who didn’t like wasting food but didn’t know a thing about service. Good times. Anyway – said favourite client resisted the temptation and she will be rewarded with praise in the morning. Her interest in having a protein smoothie instead of the fries was well.. less than enthusiastic. I said I could name a dozen reasons as to why a protein smoothie is better than fries. So let’s get started! 1. Your window of enjoying maccas fries is effectively 6 minutes. After that.. they go soggy and have the taste of REGRET.Seriously - does this look appealing to you?   1. Maccas Fries come in a very small spectrum of flavours. Not salted enough to NOTHING WILL GROW HERE AS THEY HAVE SALTED THE EARTH. And that’s ignoring the possibility of them being over/undercooked. A protein smoothie comes with more variety of flavour and yumminess!
  2. Maccas fries take approximately 3 minutes to cook and then between 30 seconds – who the hell knows before you can eat them. A delicious protein smoothie can take as little as 90 seconds to make and since you made it, you can enjoy it immediately.
  3. The nutritional value of Maccas fries is so low that we might as well say that it is zero. A protein smoothie is made because it is full of macronutrients, vitamins and minerals that are all about keeping you fueled and healthy.
  4. When you buy a serving of fries, you will usually get at least one evil chip. An evil chip is one that has been fried for too long, is brown and gross and ultimately the best chip for you in that you are unlikely to eat it. Don’t get complacent though – the evil chip is not to be trusted. It would most surely gut you like a fish if it had the chance.The odd evil chip can often be accompanied by a veritable militia of evil chips all intent on ruining your day.   5. When you buy fries, it’s likely they are already past their sell by timer. From being pulled from the fryer, fries have a timer placed on them of 7 minutes. After that time, they should actually be turfed because they are no longer FRESH by McDonald’s standards but often they aren’t because it’s a waste of food and stores want to achieve the best possible yield.
  6. From a price comparison, it is cheaper to make a basic protein smoothie than it is to buy a medium serving of maccas fries. When you consider what you are buying, the protein smoothies has much more value!This looks great, doesn't it?   7. Providing you have the ingredients, you can enjoy a protein smoothie at any time of the day. You don’t have to bend to the structured menu of McDonald’s!
  8. To get fries at their best quality, you have to actually GO to a McDonald’s. Yeah yeah – they deliver.. but by the time you get them – they are no longer fresh.Sharon just remembered a funny thing and is distracted from drinking her smoothie.   9. A Protein Smoothie has a the chance to satisfy that sweet tooth. Fries have salt and make you thirsty and is likely to make you eat more and unfortunately, if there are fries that make you eat more, it’s likely to be more McDonald’s.
  10. The number of times anyone has said or at least thought “I kinda regret buying/eating those fries” will be SO MUCH MORE than anyone saying they regretted making/drinking a protein smoothie. I’d be confident in saying that practically no one would say that they regret eating or drinking something that was directly beneficial to optimum health.If your goal is weight loss, there is no love.. only regret and guilt.   1. By having a protein smoothie, you are nourishing your body and taking a step closer to your health and fitness goals. By having the fries.. well whatever direction it takes you – outward, backward, downward – you aren’t moving forward.

All jokes aside – making sensible choices and taking out the allure of convenience and not to mention the temptations of emotional eating.. you cannot deny the positives of picking the smoothie. They are Easy, Nutritious and Very Yummy (ENVY!) and you can’t not feel good about your choice of having one. Stay strong and avoid eating fast food like McDonald’s!
