Shoes are awesome for a variety of reasons. From looking snazzy to the somewhat more important functional use of not burning your tootsies on the hot bitumen.. shoes are great. There is a shoes for nearly every occasion but we are most interested in the sports/fitness variety. I’d get into saying how high heels ruin lives.. but that’s a rant for another time 😉

Putting shoes on is one thing but making sure they actually do their job is another. With your laces, keeping the laces tight is important to ensure that the shoe properly encases the foot. The problem can be though that your heel may ‘swim’ around within the shoe which can lead to poor positioning for movement.

Have you noticed that most shoes have that extra hole right at the top of the shoe? The one where if you DO lace it up, it cuts across the top of the foot and is somewhat uncomfortable? Well it actually does have a purpose. It’s just a matter of lacing it up the correct way. By doing so we can eliminate the swimming hell problem and means you get the full support that your shoe can provide.

Known as the “heel” or “lace” lock method of lacing up your shoes, those who spend a lot of time on your feet—running, hiking, walking, or working out; this is something for you.

The goal is to create two loops, threading each strand of the laces through the extra hole and inward, toward your ankle. lace2

From there, cross your laces as usual, taking the tip of each and threading it into the loop opposing it. lace3

Pull tight, and cinch up the loops as you draw the laces across as closely as you can. lace5

Make sure to pull the laces downwards, to “lock” them into place.

Finally, tie your shoes as you normally would. Not sure how to do this? Have a chat to Liam or myself and we can sort you out! We’re here to help!
